Web Site Statistics
If you are a part of our hosting package, web site statistics are included. The report includes all sorts of different information about the visitors to your site, but the main stat that people generally want to know is how many people have come to their site. The stats page lists a few different metrics related to this. It lists Unique Visitors, Visitors and Hits, and it can get confusing as to what each means.
Unique visitors: This means that each person is counted only once - if the same person came back to your site twice in one month it would be counted as 1 in the "Unique Visitors" section
Visitors: If the same person comes back to your site twice in one month it is counted as 2 in the "Visitors" section.
They make this distinction by tracking the IP address of the person's connection to the internet, so it's not 100% accurate since IP addresses can change over time, and some people have multiple computers connected to the internet through the same IP address, but it gives you a general idea of one time vs. repeat visitors.
Hits: This is one of the more decieving stats, since it is usually significantly higher than the visitors number. It keeps track of the overall number files that are requested. This includes pages as well as other files such as images, so if a page with 4 images or graphics is opened by someone that would count as 5 hits. One for the page and 4 for the images. For this reason it isn't really a good indicator of the number of people viewing your site.
